Red and White in Sambal Tomat

Sambal tomat is one of favourite condiments on the dining table in Indonesian home. It is made up mainly from fresh chillies, garlic, red onion, salt, sugar and tomatoes. Some people put terasi or the shrimp sauce to make stronger flavour. It is intended to be hot, but of course you can adjust the level by the number of chillies you put in.

Sambal

more

Sambal is a condiment used in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines and Sri Lanka, as well as the Netherlands, through Indonesian influence and in Suriname, made from a variety of peppers, although chili peppers are the most common. Sambal is used as a condiment or as a side dish, and is sometimes substituted for fresh chilis; it can be very hot for the uninitiated. It is available at exotic food markets or gourmet departments in supermarkets in many countries. Source : Wikipedia

The Ingredients

In modern days, you can find the bottled sambal tomat in the exotic food market or gourmet departments in the supermarket, but I prefer the old way learnt from generation to generation, as shown in my picture here.

The Ingredients

For Red and White Foodie Photography Contest hosted by three pretty ladies Dwiana, Fitri and Dhi, I would like to present sambal tomat, my favourite dishes for all occasion.
